King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company Presents Awards to their Volunteers.
King Of Prussia, Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
On November 1, 2003 the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company held their 53rd annual awards banquet at the Allendale Road Fire Station Social Hall. Approximately 175 people attended the banquet to honor the volunteers and active members of the fire company. Chief William Daywalt Jr., Deputy Chief Robert Rudzinski Sr. and President William Jenaway presented awards to the following recipients:
Deputy Chief, Robert Rudzinski Sr. received the Attendance Award. Deputy Chief Rudzinski responded to over 350 alarms in the past year.
Firefighter and Past Chief, Gary Touchton received the Memorial Donald Beck Presidents Award which recognizes the accomplishments of key individual who supports the business and/or overall operations of the fire company. Gary Touchton also received the Rankin Taylor Memorial Service Award which recognizes an individual who has performed a dedicated service for significant period of time.
Firefighter, Cassie Santangelo received the Junior Firefighter of the Year Award. This award is designed to recognize a member in the 15 to 18 years of age bracket, who, in the eyes of the officers, exemplifies solid performance that other junior fire fighters should emulate.
Firefighter, Shaun Scott received the Rookie of the Year Award. This award is presented to an individual in their first full year of service and is of 18 years of age that has made a significant development in personal capability or contribution to make the organization stronger. Their performance is considered model-like for others to follow.
Firefighters, Chris Santillo and Chris MacVaugh both received the John Costello Memorial Chief Engineer's Award. This award recognizes the individual who has provided significant support to the Chief Engineer in maintaining the operational efficiency of the apparatus and the portable equipment.
Fire Policeman, William Vanderslice III received the Fire Police of the Year Award. This award recognizes the individual who has provided significant support to the Fire Police operations.
Firefighter, Mark Thomas received the King of Prussia Vol. Fire Company Scholarship Award. In 2000, the King of Prussia Vol. Fire Co. established an endowment fund with the assistance of the King of Prussia Rotary Club. Their contribution served to create a program where one individual per year, will receive assistance with their post-high school education initiatives.
Firefighter, Ben Burchard received the Fire Safety Education Award. This award is presented to an individual who has contributed to help make the companies fire prevention activities and to the community. The Fire Prevention Coordinator presents this award.
Firefighter and Vice President, Carl Daywalt Jr. received the Chaplin's Award. This award is designed to recognize a member, who in the eyes of the fire company Chaplin, Reverend Brian Henderson, of unselfish, compassionate and actions of public interest.
Assistant Chief, James Gallagher received the Clarence Silcox Memorial Fire Fighter of the Year Award. This award recognized and individual whose consistent performance marks him as a value contributor to the organization. The past recipients of the award selected this individual.
Firefighter, Vince Mazzotta and Lieutenant Mark Ross both received the Fire Chief's Award. This award recognizes an individual whose contribution during the past year was of special significance and exceptional value in the eyes of the Fire Chief.
The fire company also recognized Famous George Pizza as the Business Supporter of the Year Award and Mrs. Trisha Kelts as the Resident Supporter of the Year Award. Both helped raise money to help the fire company to rebuild their Beidler Road Fire Station which was destroyed by fire on February 2, 2003.
Hope Community Church was recognized for their support in providing a piece of property to house a temporary fire station.
Horsham Fire Company was recognized for their support in providing a fire engine to the fire company until the apparatus that was destroyed by the fire was replaced by Upper Merion Township.
King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company proudly protects 30,000 people living in an area of 15 square miles in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Operating out of 2 stations, coverage is provided to a primarily commercial area. King of Prussia VFC is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
